The Project
A People’s (or Citizens’) Assembly is a democratic process that seeks to answer a question or solve a problem facing a community in a way that fairly represents the interests of people from all walks of life. An Assembly can center around any topic; a Climate Assembly is one that centers around the problem of climate pollution. Assemblies have been used worldwide to help shape the work of governments.
My team at Cascadia Consulting Group led the inaugural and virtual WA Climate Assembly (People’s Assembly) from January-March 2021 in Washington State. The virtual sessions brought 80 Assembly members together to equip them with the tools and information they needed to identify climate mitigation strategies that equitably support Washingtonians of all backgrounds—and particularly those communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. Members learned about the issue of climate pollution, took time to discuss the issue and potential solutions with one another, and made recommendations about what should happen legislatively.
My Role
My role as the Creative Director and Marketing Lead in the 2021 Washington State Climate Assembly included producing a digital information campaign that engages residents in Washington State (U.S.) with the Assembly process.
Deliverables include:
- Developing and executing a digital information campaign strategy
- Copywriting social media content, website pages, and media releases
- Co-producing YouTube LIVE Assembly sessions with the Assembly team and 80 Assembly members
- Coordinating graphics with our team’s contract visual designer Mariah Knight and web developer Kamal Patel
